We’re thrilled you love our new packaging as much as we do. The positive feedback has been chai-tastic, and we’re happy to keep your favorite chai taste coming to you in our updated look.
A great tasting, natural product has always been important to us. After all, most of Oregon Chai’s concentrates are over 90 percent organic and carry the USDA Organic seal. Since Oregon Chai was founded, we’ve always on the lookout to share our behind-the-scenes innovations in this area with you.
We’re excited to share that after a yearlong process, five of Oregon Chai’s flavors became Non-GMO Project Verified in December 2015.
The non-GMO seal is one of the fastest-growing labels in the natural food marketplace, and we’re proud to be leading the charge as the only brand of chai tea latte to offer five Non-GMO Project Verified Flavors.
You’ll see the Non-GMO Project Verified seal displayed on the new packaging of five of our 32-ounce concentrate flavors: The Original™ Chai Tea Latte, Salted Caramel, Slightly Sweet Original, Caffeine-Free Original and Vanilla.
Wondering what exactly all of this means? We break it down for you.
What is a GMO?
GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organism. This can be a plant, animal or other organism whose genetic makeup has been modified.
You can learn more on the Non-GMO Project Verified website.
How do brands or products become Non-GMO Project Verified?
The organization currently has a six-step process for brands to go through, including significant product testing with the organization’s technical administrator. The Non-GMO Project Verification is reviewed on an annual basis.
Why did Oregon Chai decide to get Non-GMO Project Verified?
We’re always on the lookout for ways to make our tea better for all involved: our customers, our retailers and our planet. We make our tea to taste good and to feel good. That means when new certifications such as this come around, we’re going to take part in them.
Does this affect the taste of Oregon Chai?
We wouldn’t do anything to change the taste of our delicious chai. It’s still the same authentic, rich, creamy chai people love. The majority of our products have been GMO-Free, and we are proud to represent the Non-GMO Project.
Why aren’t the other Oregon Chai flavors Non-GMO Project Verified?
We started with a focus on getting our five USDA organic products verified. While our powdered mixes are non-GMO, we haven’t gotten them officially Non-GMO Project Verified just yet.
Our sugar-free concentrates use a combination of organic ingredients. These organic ingredients don’t contain any GMOs; however, the Splenda® product used to sweeten the product isn’t officially considered non-GMO.
